People Power Projects &emdash Past and Present

- Organized 1st of many rides (1/13/91 to San Francisco). 300 bicyclists protested the role that society's addiction to oil played in the Persian Gulf War.

- Worked on downtown redevelopment to get bike lanes on downtown streets and get plentiful, quality bike parking.

- Organized a successful campaign to get bike lanes on Front St. and Bay St. (to UCSC). Planned safer Hwy 9 campaign.

- Lobbied successfully to change a planned Broadway/Brommer road connection to be for bikes and pedestrians only. Planning is under way for this important connection.

- Provided extensive practical input to city and county transportation planning process.

- Coordinating sponsor of annual Bike To Work Day.

- Started county program Bikes Are Good Business.

- Host educational booths at events such as the S.C. Mission Fiesta, Earth Day Fair, Peace Fair, and the Farmers Market.

- UCSC/Cabrillo People Power groups. Alternative transportation education. Environmental Science awards in high schools.

- County Trip Reduction Ordinance workshops participants.

- Working on bike-friendly Beach Street area redevelopment.

- New Soquel bike lanes project design input in Eastside of SC.

- Wrote a new bike parking ordinance (and successfully lobbied its passage) that insure a more & higher quality bike parking. Lets businesses convert car parking to bike parking.

- Produced international bike advocacy guide/directory with Bike Federation of America. Used by hundreds of groups worldwide.

- Produce a newsletter on local/national bike advocacy issues.

- Bikes on buses project. Racks now on most city bus lines.

- Participants in panels, radio shows, newspaper interviews and editorials, Comic News inserts.

- Worked to maintain bike access on West Cliff Drive bridge.

- Watchdog of transportation activity in city/county transportation commissions, city councils, and supervisor meetings.

- Dozens of other projects!
