Reptiles generally move slowly, and may even seek out the warmth of sunny summer pavement. Unfortunately, not only do they stand no chance of avoiding cars, most drivers never have the faintest idea they've killed these animals.

I watched this snake day after day for a week before taking this picture of it in a dried out state. This snake was killed on La Madrona Rd. north of Santa Cruz.
